The Israeli Market:
The Israeli health care system is based on the organization of "sick funds". The sick funds are institutions providing health care services to their members, each citizen is insured in one of the sick funds by law. Today there are four sick funds; Kupat Holim, the largest sick fund, insures about 65% of the population, and the other three sick funs are smaller dividing the rest of the population between them.
The total Israeli pharmaceuticals market in 1996 is estimated to be over $700 million.
Sales and Marketing
Marketing department structure - Today the human pharmaceuticals marketing division is comprised of three marketing segments : 1. Rx products (antibiotics and other prescription drugs); 2. Eye, Skin and antiseptic products ; 3. OTC products.
Vitamed's products are distinguishable by being products with high manufacturing sophistication and high quality demands.
Recently, in order to head the dynamic marketing efforts of Vitamed, the company set up a young and ambitious marketing team. This team is supporting and promoting the company's products by a wide range of marketing activities (TV advertising campaigns, sales promotions etc.) in order to achieve the high marketing targets set by the company, and further establish the products as "branded generics".
